I used to think he was a pretty scary bloke, but after several people urged me to listen to more and more of his music, I realised how much of a musical genius the man is. (I would like to thank these people here, you now who you are :-P) The lyrics, the angst and the power seem to take a back seat to his image, which many find repelling. These days, I find it quite interesting, but maybe that's because I'm a little warped. He's caused so much debate over the past few years, and has become hated by different classes of people, namely religious groups and parents, but don't dismiss him as a hate-mongering, attention seeking artist because he really isn't. He actually displays affection occasionally, an example being at the Reading Festival, during which he dedicated "The Fight Song" to a recently deceased teenager, and hugged her mother backstage. Yes, he is human, and no, he did not remove his testicle and put it in his eye socket.... it's a contact lens for crying out loud. Don't even get me started on the rib removal thing.
